Experience Democracy: The Long Night in Starnberg invites participation
From October 1 to 3, 2026, Starnberg will become a stage for encounters, exchange, and joint reflection. The Long Night of Democracy brings together people of all ages and combines discussions, workshops, music, film, and participatory actions into a diverse event experience.
Kicking Off with Fairplay and Democracy
The kickoff on Thursday, October 1, is themed Fairplay in Sports – Fairplay for Democracy. Starting at 5 PM, the Democracy Mile opens in the foyer of the Schlossberghalle. Information booths, participatory actions, and personal conversations create an open event atmosphere where democratic values can be experienced firsthand.
Conversation, Change of Perspective, and Audience Involvement
At 7 PM, the official opening begins with greetings from patron County Commissioner Stefan Frey, 3rd Mayor Christiane Falk, and Dr. Philipp Hildmann from the Bavarian Alliance for Tolerance. Following this, sports manager Ulrike Bracht will speak about Fairplay and Democracy from a sports perspective.
In the subsequent discussion, former professional athlete Dr. Carolina Pini, Robert Schraudner from the Bavarian Football Association and the Bavarian State Sports Association, and other guests will participate. Audience involvement places direct exchange at the center and turns the event into a lively forum for diverse viewpoints.
Music, Encounters, and a Joint Conclusion
Starting around 8:45 PM, live music by Justyn Tyme will provide a lively conclusion. With drinks and finger food, there will be room for conversations, new contacts, and personal encounters. The Long Night continues on October 2 and 3 with additional offerings. Planned are workshops, youth programs, cinema, another Democracy Mile, a big band concert from the music school, a Democracy Church, a pulpit speech, an organ concert, and encounters in the Peace Church. This statewide Bavarian project connects educational work, culture, and social engagement.
Organization and Significance
The Long Night of Democracy is a project of the Values Alliance Bavaria. In Starnberg, the vhs StarnbergAmmersee, the Starnberg Dialogue for Peaceful Coexistence, and the Starnberg Youth Council, along with numerous cooperation partners, are jointly responsible for the event planning. The project is supported by the Bavarian Savings Bank Foundation, the District of Starnberg, the City of Starnberg, and the Werner Reichenberger Foundation.
