"Favorite People": A moving cinematic experience about friendship and dignity
As part of the film series "The Dignity of Man ..." the Amnesty group Ammersee and Kinowelt at Ammersee present the German feature film "Favorite People". On Thursday, October 22, 2026, this tragicomedy tells the story of an unusual encounter that transcends the boundaries of age, origin, and social experience.
A friendship beyond familiar boundaries
At the center of the film are Amir, a 28-year-old gay refugee from Iran, and Agnes, a lively 101-year-old woman from Berlin. From an initially unusual shared living arrangement, a deep friendship develops. Both characters approach each other with openness, curiosity, and the courage to reassess established life narratives.
Between zest for life, memory, and cultural encounters
"Favorite People" combines personal intimacy with socially relevant topics. The story raises questions of migration, loneliness, solidarity, and the value of human relationships. It creates a sensitive cinematic experience that understands cultural differences not as dividing lines but as a starting point for mutual learning.
Cinematic examination and engaged cinema
Director Helena Hufnagel shapes the encounter as a heartfelt, life-affirming narrative. Katharina Thalbach, Bardo Böhlefeld, and Ronald Zehrfeld shape the ensemble with different acting styles, giving the story emotional depth. The 108-minute production focuses on the dignity of the individual and the aesthetic experience of shared life time.
An evening in the excellent cinema at Ammersee
The Kinowelt at Ammersee provides the right space for this special film event. The cinema in Dießen is known for its curated program and has been repeatedly awarded by the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, according to the market Dießen. On this evening, the exhibition atmosphere gives way to a concentrated cinema atmosphere, where film, social exchange, and cultural education come together.
The artistic experience of this evening lies in encountering a story that begins subtly and unfolds a lasting impact. "Favorite People" invites us to reflect on prejudices, belonging, and the surprising forms of human closeness. Anyone wishing to experience engaged cinema with emotional narrative power should not miss this film evening at Kinowelt at Ammersee.
