When Weilheim shines, the old town becomes a stage
On October 16 and 17, 2026, the Light Art Weilheim Festival #4 transforms the historic old town into a walkable art space. From 7 PM to 11 PM each evening, projections, colors, movement, and sound meet at squares, facades, and buildings – right in the heart of Weilheim in Upper Bavaria.
Festival atmosphere between Marienplatz and old town alleys
The festival kick-off on Friday begins at 7 PM on Marienplatz with a approximately 20-minute fire performance by the Vaganti Artistic Theatre of TSV-Weilheim-Akrobatik. Acrobatics, movement art, and fire play open a two-day multi-day experience that transforms familiar places into new visual worlds.
International light art and site-specific installations
The focus of the lineup is on works developed specifically for the Weilheim locations. HOLD by Filip Roca at the Municipal Music School, WELLENGANG by Flashlines at the city wall Am Riss, and MARIENLICHT by Philipp Geist on Marienplatz shape the route. The program is complemented by light painting in Hofstraße, artist talks in the Zwischenraum, and the side project Wasted Lights by EVA at Kirchplatz.
Philipp Geist and Light Art Weilheim e. V.
The light artist Philipp Geist from Weilheim takes over the artistic direction and curation again. Together with the association Light Art Weilheim e. V. and numerous volunteer helpers, he develops a festival that has regularly brought international light art to the city since 2016. The festival organization combines professional projections with local cultural work and open participation.
Participate instead of just watching
Students from the Weilheim secondary school will also create their own light art project for Hofstraße under the leadership of Claudia Schmidt. Overhead projectors, colors, and self-developed motifs will temporarily transform facades. Visitors can participate in light painting and actively help shape the festival atmosphere.
A festival for everyone
Entry to the installations and supporting program is free. This keeps the Light Art Festival an open cultural event for families, art enthusiasts, photography fans, and the entire festival community. Previous editions attracted tens of thousands of people to Weilheim's city center.
Conclusion: Two evenings full of light, movement, and encounters
The Light Art Weilheim Festival #4 offers an intense open-air art experience with immersive projections, fire performance, artist talks, and surprising perspectives on the old town. Those who want to see how historic squares become glowing stages can experience Weilheim live on October 16 and 17.
